When do I plant and prune hydrangeas?
Plant hydrangeas in fall or spring so they can establish good root systems without the stress of summer heat or winter cold. Prune plants that bloom on last year’s growth in the spring after they flower. Prune plants that bloom on new growth (often called “reblooming hydrangeas”) in the spring after the plants leaf out.
