California’s Proposition 65, also called the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, was enacted in 1986. It is intended to help Californians make informed decisions about protecting themselves from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The content and requirements for the warning label have been revised and specify that the safe harbor warning for consumer products states that the product ‘can expose you to’ a Proposition 65 chemical.
Monrovia has complied with the new requirements in listing the warning primarily due to two materials, wood dust and crystalline silica from perlite, both of which could be in the soil and those two materials are the most common in our plants. While we believe that the amounts present would be far below the level that would require a Prop 65 warning, we’ve included the warning label in order to comply with the updated regulations.
