How do I protect plants in a heatwave?

Mulch plants heavily to keep roots and soil cool and slow moisture evaporation. Check the area for reflected sun and try to alleviate that to avoid damage during the next heat spell. Move containers away from a window or wall that gets intense sun, for example. Or, if you’re able, move them to a location with afternoon shade. You can also situate an umbrella to give some temporary shelter to susceptible plants. Early-morning watering (only when needed) typically keeps plants healthy through dry, hot conditions.
